Sharing More than Stuff

Your resource sharing colleagues are a great resource in and of themselves. Beyond the books, movies and article that they generously lend to you, they have lots of helpful hints and collections of data that can assist you in maximizing your workflow.
ShareILL (pronouced Sheryl) is a wiki built by and for ILL practitioners. Among the links to discussion lists, blogs, verification tools, and document suppliers, you will find lists of painstakingly researched OCLC symbols organized by categories that are helpful for building your custom holdings in OCLC. Categories include free A/V lenders, folks who will make color copies, and those who will lend complete journal issues. Such lists are a gold mine to optimizing that WorldCat Resource Sharing subscription that your library is investing in. Unfortunately, the gold mine metaphor extends to the digging you may need to do to find the lists on the site. Here’s a yellow brick road to get you there (maybe too heavy handed with the metaphor . . . )
- From the homepage, click on “Library Networks and Consortia” in the “Managing Your ILL Operations” box in the left hand menu.
- From there, click on the “ShareILL Custom Holdings Lists” in the “Reciprocal and Direct Borrowing Agreements” Section.
